Star Search is a talent quest that gives amateur musicians from the Geelong region an opportunity to perform before a large live audience in a premier event location.

Many Australian performers who have achieved world acclaim have been Star Search winners.

Star Search has been run by the Rotary Club of Highton for over 30 years as a community service project, with the primary aim of fostering local talent. It is recognized as a first class opportunity for local talent to showcase their abilities. Star Search is now a respected starting point to achieve local, national and international recognition, as a musician and performer in the world of music.

Over the past 30 years hundreds of performers have been given the opportunity to start a professional career. A recent winner who hit the world stage is Missy Higgins who has achieved pop stardom. Many others have been given a career start as Star Search winners, including some of the most prominent performers in the world of opera as well as classical, pop, band and orchestral music. These include opera diva, Cheryl Barker, jazz musician Paul Rettke and many others.

Star Search is more than an eisteddfod. It showcases the best of local talent, and enables participants to experience a live performance event, compete for substantial prizes, gain public recognition and receive feedback by some of Victorias most experienced talent judges.

Geelong is blessed with a rich pool of talented musicians. This year dozens of acts will be auditioned for the main event and up to 15 finalists will be chosen to perform at Geelong’s waterfront Costa Hall in front of a capacity audience.

The performances are expected to include classical through to pop, country and blues traditional to operatic, jazz and stage bands. There's enough variety to satisfy every musical taste.

Star Search final will be held at 7:30pm on Friday 11th May 2012 at Costa Hall Geelong.
Tickets are also available from Geelong Performing Arts Centre (GPAC) box office.
